The Metropolis of Belmont has just claimed that an accidental discharge of about 4,480 gallons of untreated wastewater has spilled into the Catawba River basin.
The discharge occurred at one particular of the town’s key gravity mains found at 200 Caldwell Farm Road. The wastewater then entered Abbey Creek and from there flowed into the Catawba River and Lake Wylie.

In accordance to the metropolis, the discharge “was the final result of a pipe failure and particles obstruction”.
