SANFORD, N.C. News – A Lee County girl is recovering just after she was hurt and her sister died in an ATV crash over the weekend.
The incident transpired when the sisters were being riding the car on a railroad bridge around U.S. Highway 1 in close proximity to Sanford at all over 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the North Carolina Condition Freeway Patrol.
Alexis Stone, 26, of Sanford, was driving the ATV with her sister Chelsea Coates, as a passenger.
The ATV driver shed manage and the car or truck fell to the road beneath, troopers explained.
Alexis Stone died in the crash. Coates, also of Sanford, was taken to a Chapel Hill healthcare facility with major accidents.
Coates, who is married with two small children, experienced a shattered pelvis and a broken leg, Charles Coates mentioned on a fundraising web page.
The mom of the two girls, Joyce Thomas, said Tuesday that Coates is nevertheless in intense treatment and will require several surgeries.
“Their son and daughter, Lucas and Lillian will have to have their mom again, and it will be a extended highway for restoration for Chelsea and their total spouse and children,” Charles Coates wrote.
